Small fish, big fish

The fish industry is directly linked to the unpredictable risks such as ecological, financial, insurance, technological, etc. The “Russian sea” is a bright example of the company that has faced almost all of them. Also, it has experienced more than one crisis throughout its history, but nevertheless the company is constantly developing and improving, changing directions and forms of its business. Some may say it is luck, but in fact luck has nothing to do with the success of the “Russian sea”. It was Maksim Vorobyev – ambitious and perspective young manager – who turned a small enterprise into a public joint-stock company under the name of “Russian Aquaculture”.
The history of the company began in 1997 when it was only an importer of fish from Norway, mostly herring and mackerel. A year later was opened the first modern plant in Noginsk (Moscow region), which became a major production platform in the segment of the fish products. Since then, the company began to develop rapidly.
Small fish, big fish

To fish or not to fish?

In 1999, the company has started the production of a wide range of cold smoked fish. Since 2000, the company has signed numerous contracts with large retailers in Russia. But at that point, all the fish was imported or bought from Russian fishing companies.
In 2002, the company has mastered the production of salmon, trout and red caviar. Five years later, Maksim Vorobyev has made every effort to start the development of a new field of the fish business – aquaculture. He had bought a trout breeding farm in Korelia. Almost ten years later, the company produced 1,600 tons of rainbow trout.
By the year 2010, more than 25 offices in different cities and regions of the country were opened. The assortment of the company had covered all price segments of the fish market.
Finally, in 2011 Maksim Vorobyev has started an independent fishing company “Russian sea – Catching” (since 2014 – “Russian Fishery Company”). This enterprise is engaged in fishing in the Far East and is one of Russia’s largest owners of quotas for Alaska pollock and Pacific herring.

Future fish

At this point, the company’s plans include further development of aquaculture. Maksim Vorobyev believes that by 2019-2020, the company will produce no fewer than 21 thousand tons of chilled fish products for the domestic market. He also plans to build own Atlantic salmon fry breeding farm and the plant for the production of feed.
